This web exploration is just an excerpt of the complete field trip that runs from Modesto to Hornitos, Highway 140 through Merced, the Merced River Canyon, through Yosemite Valley, and back to Modesto via Highway 120 and 132 (some of the references may not be noted on the web exploration).
